Ready to step up? Get your QBCC builder licence application sorted.

Already working as a tradie, foreman, supervisor or builder? BLS checks the likely QBCC builder class, identifies what is missing and helps prepare the application and supporting documents.

Start with the right application.

  • Know which QBCC builder class may fit
  • Use existing qualifications and RPL only where needed
  • Get projects, referees and business documents ready

What QBCC looks for in a builder application.

QBCC expects more than years in the industry. The class must cover your intended work, then the qualification, experience, referee and financial evidence must support the application type.

  1. 01

    Licence class and scope

Low Rise, Medium Rise, Open and restricted builder classes cover different work. The class should cover the buildings and construction you intend to contract, manage or supervise before you choose the form.

  2. 02

    Technical qualification or RPL

QBCC requires evidence of the technical skills relevant to the class. The accepted evidence can include an RTO qualification, an RTO RPL certificate or a qualification statement from an approved authority. RPL is a qualification pathway, not a licence decision.

  3. 03

    Experience record

For a Builder Low Rise application, the QBCC guide looks for relevant construction stages, roles, responsibilities and project timeframes. Experience limited to a single trade may not show the full scope, so the project record needs to explain what you supervised or managed.

  4. 04

    Referee support

For the experience being assessed, a suitable referee ideally holds a licence or qualification at the same or higher level and can verify your onsite experience. QBCC may consider supervisory or managerial referees where they can credibly confirm the work claimed.

  5. 05

    Business and financial context

Contractor applications also involve fit-and-proper, identity and business-structure requirements, plus the relevant minimum financial requirement report or declaration. A company nominee needs the right technical qualifications and experience in the same scope.

Help with the application

You know the work. We help get the application sorted.

  • Check whether Low Rise, Medium Rise, Open or a restricted builder class may fit.
  • Review qualifications before you spend money on RPL or more training.
  • Select projects that show the building stages and responsibilities you handled.
  • Prepare referee, business, financial and application documents before lodgement.

Who this is for

  • Experienced builders preparing a first QBCC application.
  • Site supervisors stepping into contractor or nominee responsibilities.
  • Applicants moving from restricted, Low Rise or Medium Rise toward a broader class.
  • Interstate or NZ builders who need the Queensland requirements checked before applying.

When another service may fit better

  • Applicants looking for guaranteed approval or a shortcut around QBCC requirements.
  • People who do not want to provide genuine work history, documents or referee details.

Know what is included before you proceed.

Licence and registration applications vary by state, class and how much preparation is needed. The free check gives BLS enough information to explain the service and provide a quote.

What affects the quote

The quote depends on where you are applying, the type of application, what records you already have and how much preparation is still needed.

Included work
BLS confirms the included application and evidence work before you proceed.
Other fees
Regulator, RTO, insurance, police check and other third-party fees are separate unless a proposal expressly includes them.
Qualification gaps
RPL or training is recommended only where a genuine qualification gap is identified.
Assessment
The regulator or RTO assesses the application or qualification and makes the final decision.
