Apply for NT building contractor registration in your name or company.

Whether you are applying in your own name or through a company, BLS helps choose the residential or commercial BPB application and prepare the project, referee, financial and business documents.

How builder licensing works in Northern Territory.

The Building Practitioners Board (BPB) registers building contractors and other practitioners in the Northern Territory. Building contractor applications are split into residential or commercial work, with restricted and unrestricted options. The qualification, experience, insurance, project and business requirements depend on the category and whether an individual or company applies.

What are you applying for in Northern Territory?

Choose the option closest to your situation. You do not need to know the exact licence class before speaking with BLS.

Restricted building contractor registration

Building within the lower height limits? In the NT, restricted is the lower height band of building contractor registration, not a trade registration. The Board does not register trades.

Company director or nominee

Contracting through a company? At least one director or nominee must be registered as a building contractor in each sub-category and supervise the company’s work. The NT has no separate supervisor registration.

Mutual recognition into the NT

Already registered interstate? Mutual recognition may let you apply for an equivalent NT registration, subject to the BPB category and requirements.
