Preparing your next step

Start withwhat you know.

You do not need to choose the exact licence class before speaking with BLS.

Your state
Where you want to apply or work.
Your work
The building or trade work you do and your experience so far.
Your next move
The work, responsibility or contracting position you want to take on.

From your first check to a prepared application.

You will know what BLS is doing, what we need from you and what still has to happen before lodgement.

  1. 01

Tell us where you are now

We start with your state, current role, experience and the licence or registration you are trying to obtain.

  2. 02

See what you can already use

We review your qualifications, licences, site history and projects so you know what can support the application.

  3. 03

    Find out what is missing

You may need application help only. If there is a genuine gap, we explain whether RPL, training or another licence step is required.

  4. 04

    Gather the right records

We show you which project examples, referees and documents to collect before you apply.

  5. 05

    Prepare the application

BLS helps complete the forms and supporting documents, then checks the details before lodgement.

  6. 06

    Deal with follow-up

If the regulator asks for more information, we explain the request and help prepare the response.

What BLS takes care of and what only you can provide.

We handle the application work included in your service. You provide accurate details about your experience, qualifications and projects.

BLS handles

  • Checking which licence or registration you should apply for.
  • Reviewing what your qualifications, projects and referees can support.
  • Preparing the forms and supporting documents included in your service.
  • Coordinating RPL, training, mutual recognition or nominee work where it is needed.
  • Helping you understand and answer regulator follow-up.

You provide

  • Accurate details about your current role, work history and where you are applying.
  • Qualifications, transcripts, licences, RPL documents or training records already held.
  • Project examples, invoices, contracts, photos, statements or other records that can be verified.
  • Referee or employer details where experience needs to be supported by a third party.
  • Honest answers about restrictions, disciplinary history or previous application issues.

Get the help your application actually needs.

Some people need application support only. Others also need RPL, training, mutual recognition or company and nominee work.

Application support

For applicants who appear ready but want help getting the forms and supporting documents sorted.

RPL or training plus application support

For experienced applicants who may be able to use RPL, or who need to complete specific training before applying.

Mutual recognition

For people who already hold a licence or registration and want to use it in another state.

Company and nominee support

For businesses that need a company licence and the correct individual or nominee licence behind it.

Make your part in the work clear.

You know the job. Your application needs to explain what you did. BLS helps you put that detail together before you apply.

Example: describing your work

The job alone

“I worked on a house extension.”

This names the project, but leaves your part unclear.

Your part in it

“I set out and framed the walls and roof of a single-storey extension.”

Add the dates you were on the project.

Common questions before you start.

Straight answers about BLS, RPL, regulator decisions and choosing the right place to begin.

Is BLS the regulator?

No. BLS is independent. We walk you through the evidence and application; the regulator assesses it and makes the final decision.

Can you guarantee approval?

No one can guarantee a regulator’s decision. What BLS can do is prepare a complete, accurate and well-supported application using the strongest evidence available.

Do I always need RPL or training?

No. RPL or training is only relevant when the qualification requirement cannot be met with what you already hold. We check that before recommending either option.

What if I am not sure which state or class applies?

You do not need to choose the class before speaking with BLS. The free next-step check asks where you are applying, what you do now and what you are trying to move into.

Not sure what you can apply for?

Complete the free next-step check with your state, current role and experience. BLS will review it and explain how we may be able to help.
