BPB uses different forms and experience requirements for residential and commercial contractor categories. BLS helps you choose the category and prepare the projects, references and financial documents.

What the regulator will ask for
BPB has separate residential and commercial building contractor categories, with restricted and unrestricted options. The selected category controls the practical experience, projects and supporting documents you need to provide.
Current BPB forms separate residential and commercial building contractor applications, with restricted and unrestricted options. Confirm the category before gathering evidence.
BPB forms require practical experience and project detail for the selected category. Current residential and commercial forms use different look-back periods, so check the applicable form, project dates, role and responsibilities before relying on a timeframe.
A building contractor application requires an original certificate from a registered accountant showing at least $50,000 in net tangible assets. The applicant must maintain at least this amount throughout the registration period.
Project evidence should show the address, dates, your involvement, role and responsibilities. If you did not sign the builder declaration, BPB forms ask for a detailed reference from the registered builder who did. Company applications also require current ASIC information and appropriate nominee or director supervision evidence.
The BPB registration page lists lodgement through a Territory Business Centre in person, by email or by post. Prepare the correct form, supporting documents and fee first.
