Start with the right application.
- Confirm that the business needs a contractor licence
- Check supervisor coverage for every category
- Prepare company, partnership and ABN details
Company or partnership contractor licence
The company or partnership needs its own contractor licence and a nominated supervisor for each category. BLS helps prepare both parts of the application.

What the regulator will ask for
The business needs its own contractor licence. It also needs a nominated supervisor who holds the right individual licence or certificate for every category in the application.
An organisation or partnership needs its own contractor licence to contract, subcontract or advertise for regulated residential building, trade or specialist work.
The application must identify a nominated supervisor with the right individual contractor licence or qualified supervisor certificate for each category.
The nominated supervisor must be a director, partner, or full-time or part-time employee of the business. Casual or temporary employees and subcontractors do not meet this connection requirement.
Company and partnership licence holders must keep Building Commission NSW informed if they lose an acceptable nominated qualified supervisor.
The supervisor must have the required connection to the business. Business and individual licence scopes still need to be checked separately.

What BLS does for you
BLS checks who is applying, which categories the entity needs and whether the nominated supervisor covers them.

Service and cost
Licence and registration applications vary by state, class and how much preparation is needed. The free check gives BLS enough information to explain the service and provide a quote.
The quote depends on where you are applying, the type of application, what records you already have and how much preparation is still needed.
