Already licensed interstate or in New Zealand and moving into Queensland?

BLS checks whether your current licence has a QBCC equivalent, explains how its restrictions may carry across and helps prepare the Queensland mutual recognition application.

Start with the right application.

  • Check whether QBCC has an equivalent class
  • Understand which restrictions may carry across
  • Prepare your licence evidence and application documents

Can your current licence support a Queensland application?

Queensland does not participate in the national AMR scheme. QBCC mutual recognition depends on a current interstate or New Zealand licence and an equivalent Queensland class.

  1. 01

Is your interstate or New Zealand licence current?

QBCC describes mutual recognition as a process for a person licensed in another state, territory or New Zealand to be licensed in Queensland to perform the same work.

  2. 02

Does QBCC have an equivalent class?

If there is no QBCC licence equivalent to the interstate or New Zealand licence, QBCC states it will not be able to issue a Queensland licence.

  3. 03

    Which restrictions will follow you?

QBCC mutual recognition forms state that conditions or restrictions on the original licence must be imposed on the Queensland licence, and QBCC may impose further conditions after assessment.

  4. 04

Can you quote the Queensland work you have in mind?

Check the recognised class against the work you intend to contract or supervise in Queensland before relying on it.

Check the current licence against the QBCC equivalent.

Current interstate or NZ licence
Review the existing class, restrictions and expiry.
QBCC equivalent
Check the equivalent class and restrictions against the Queensland work you intend to do.

Queensland does not participate in the national AMR scheme. QBCC decides the recognised class, conditions and outcome. Recognition is not an automatic licence transfer.

Illustrative scene: a fictional builder compares an existing licence record on a phone and an HP laptop in a modest workspace.

Use your existing licence without assuming every right transfers.

BLS checks the likely QBCC equivalent, reviews restrictions and helps prepare the application documents.

Help with the application

You know the work. We help get the application sorted.

  • Review the class, restrictions and expiry on your current licence.
  • Check the likely QBCC equivalent and where your rights may narrow.
  • Prepare the application documents and supporting licence evidence.
  • Explain whether a new QBCC application, upgrade or narrower recognition application may fit better.

Who this is for

  • Interstate builders and trades moving work into Queensland.
  • New Zealand licence holders checking the QBCC equivalent.
  • Existing licence holders whose conditions or restrictions need careful mapping.

When another service may fit better

  • Applications that need legal, financial or disciplinary advice outside BLS’s service.
  • Situations where the required work history, qualifications or records cannot be provided.

Know what is included before you proceed.

Licence and registration applications vary by state, class and how much preparation is needed. The free check gives BLS enough information to explain the service and provide a quote.

What affects the quote

The quote depends on where you are applying, the type of application, what records you already have and how much preparation is still needed.

Included work
BLS confirms the included application and evidence work before you proceed.
Other fees
Regulator, RTO, insurance, police check and other third-party fees are separate unless a proposal expressly includes them.
Qualification gaps
RPL or training is recommended only where a genuine qualification gap is identified.
Assessment
The regulator or RTO assesses the application or qualification and makes the final decision.
